What is Second Life?
Watch this video here. What are the educational possibilities? Watch this video here. This video shows how the New Medial Consortium is using Second Life.
Second Life at Tacoma Community College
There is enough going on in Second Life to warrant having staff take a peek. Blackboard has a major initiative to connect Blackboard & Second Life; we are working on two grants to support SL on this college and on the state level; John Miller, a nursing instructor is using it in labs so students can participate in medical simulations. The first place to go is Second Life's main page. Then there is a list of Top 20 Educational Places in SL and the Top 10 Medical Sites in SL
More instructors are now using Second Life to support their teaching. As Information Commons staff, it is important that you learn enough about this to help out new students in the Info Commons and the classrooms. Before you get started, I would like you to learn more about an instructor here who is using Second Life, John Miller. Take a look at his blog here to get an idea of the kind of teaching and learning that is possible in Second Life: John Miller's Blog John Miller's class is just an example. We also have other nursing classes, Health Information Management, and Administration of Justice classes using Second Life.
